This is a Spoiler Review of the fifth episode of the Disney+ series.
Asylum
At the ending of episode four “The Tomb,” it is revealed that Marc and Steven are trapped in some sort of psychiatric ward and as they were trying to escape the ward they were greeted by a hippotamus-shaped figure.
Now in the fifth episode, Steven identifies the hippopotamus-shaped figure as Taweret who explains to Marc and Steven that they are dead and the “psychiatric ward” is a boat cruising through the Duat. She uses the Scales of Justice to determine whether or not they will be allowed to enter the Field of Reeds, and she tells them to work together to discover hidden memories that are causing their imbalance. Marc confesses to Steven how he became Khonshu’s avatar while on a mission with Raoul Bushman, while Steven has a memory of Marc’s younger brother Randall drowning and Marc’s mother blaming him for it.
Marc and Steven convince Taweret to let them return to the living world to stop Harrow, and she steers the boat towards the Gates of Osiris. “Dr. Harrow” convinces Marc that he has to fully open up to Steven, and Marc reluctantly explains that he unknowingly created Steven as a result of their mother’s abuse. Steven and Marc reconcile with each other, but their scales fail to balance, causing hostile spirits to attack them. While fending them off, Steven is consumed by the Duat. The scales are balanced, and Marc finds himself in the Field of Reeds.
What do we think?
Unlike the other Marvel Disney+ series, the fifth episode of Moon Knight delivers a very compelling and intriguing episode adding more to the characters of Marc Spector and Steven Grant, this episode also provided the backstory of how Marc Spector became Moon Knight. Mohamed Diab did a really good job of capturing the essence of the story that was being told. The visuals and the performances were consistently amazing as they have been throughout the show.
What’s Next?
The next episode of the series which is the sixth episode will air on 4th May 2022 and will serve as the season finale for the show. This being the finale it will answer many questions as to how Marc will free Khonshu and defeat Harrow as it was shown that too many souls were being sent to the duat. We’ll have to wait a week to find out!
