‘Lightyear’ is an epic sci-fi action-adventure and the definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear, the hero who inspired the toy, ‘Lightyear’ follows the legendary Space Ranger after he’s marooned on a hostile planet 4.2 million light-years from Earth alongside his commander and their crew. As Buzz tries to find a way back home through space and time, he’s joined by a group of ambitious recruits and his charming robot companion cat, Sox. Complicating matters and threatening the mission is the arrival of Zurg, an imposing presence with an army of ruthless robots and a mysterious agenda.
‘Lightyear’ brings us the return of Pixar to movie theaters and they didn’t disappoint at all! The movie starts very frenetic, the movie is non stop action, bringing us a well done character development and one of the best visuals we ever saw in a Pixar movie.
When the movie started, the goosebumps came up on me, ‘Lightyear’ is a origin story of a hero, of a symbol, of an idol for Andy and one text in this movie was literally everything: “In 1995, a boy named Andy got a toy from his favorite movie. This is that movie.” Chris Evans is an awesome actor and he isn’t different here, bringing us an amazing voice to the character, some old fans will probably feel weird about it at first and miss the voice of Tim Allen but you get used to it threw time.
In general, ‘Lightyear’ has a great cast and characters, the way the characters interact with themselves is really great and make us being even more attented to the movie, highlighting the cat Sox that it’s definetly the best character of it, in the beginning it actually just feels like that he’s only there to sell toys and merchandise, and actually can be just for that! But the humor this character brings to the movie makes it even more unique.
About the plot, yes we can call it simple and also complex, Buzz wants to finish his mission, he won’t give up until he does it and that cost a LOT for him, it’s awesome to see how the character grew threw this movie and the relationships he created too.
The villain was a big part of it, bringing us mind blowing twists that make us think about it a lot, it actually is a very intelligent movie and really well done, i would love to see Woody getting it’s own solo movie too!
Loved every second of the action scenes, the lightning, the shading, EVERYTHING is so detailed and is colorful that make our eyes shine of joy, it’s also funny how we could associate the character to the toy, like things he does threw the movie and we be like: “oh.. so that’s why the toy does that…” and this was such a great thing to remind. The movie also has a very frenetic energy that it literally doesn’t stop at any moment, and i think it reminds sometimes ‘Transformers’ and even ‘Star Wars’ franchises.
As we already know, a Pixar movie is not a Pixar movie without it’s emotional parts right? ‘Lightyear’ made me cry in the very beginning. It’s just too Pixar, the friendship between Buzz and Alisha is beautiful to see, and the representation in this movie was also really well done.
If you’re thinking you’re going to watch a movie with Tim Allen’s character then my friend you should change your thoughts! This is not the toy, it does feel like another character but it also feels that the toy is actually based on him, and that it’s what supposed to feel like!
After all, ‘Lightyear’ is a must watch, if you like ‘Toy Story’ and Pixar movies then you’ll definitely enjoy this one, this is different than anything you saw before in Pixar, ‘Lightyear’ is a true love letter to ‘Toy Story’ fans!
Oh and don’t forget to stay until the very ending of the credits, there are 3 post-credit scenes!
