Obi-Wan Kenobi: Episode 5 Review

‪“Jedis goes to defend life, not take it”‬. This is what the episode stands for while we keep advancing through the episode.

It’s hard to put in words how much this episode can mean to someone who grow up with the Star Wars universe, specially the prequels. But let’s start for the beginning.

Obi Wan helps Tala and the “rebel group” to escape of the empires claws not right before watching to some Attack Of The Clones flashback time, Anakin vs Obi Wan fighting (same style as Episode III at the prequels and the show). Need to mention they barely used CGI in their faces, which I like it, but Skywalker push himself to be the “winner” in every aspect, letting fear and angry take control of him.

We follow Reva being chosen by Vader as the actual Grand Inquisitor, tracing the course to Jabiin where we see, again, Haja after the events of episode two (he’s going to be babysitting Leia in some form lately in the episode); “Lola” cut the energy system blocking the leaving doors controls for the spaceship; Obi-Wan creates a plan where in an hour they need to lockdown every entry and prepare to fight while he gives them time, then, Leia offers her self to fix the controls in the vent (nice parallel to ESB, when she’s on the Falcon repairing some stuffs) having 100% of Kenobi’s trusts.

We have a brief talk moment between Tala/Obi about the hard times of the empire and the people sensitive to the force she has to kill but we know there’s not time for love or good times in the saga and the only goal now in mind is convince Reva about the major purpose. Yes, she’s the little girl we saw on the first episode as a youngling. And yes, Vader killed all of them except of her because she played dead, so she’s hunting him.

The emotions on this scene was very good. Seeing how she’s debating about what to do and how strong to the force is, being conflicted and how, him, don’t want his old dear friend dead, just want him to stop.

Negotiations doesn’t go well. Stormtroopers attacks, there’s many of them and, as an every galactic movie, sacrifices needs to be present, this time by the hand of Atala and her droid with the last magic words “May The Force Be With You” closing her purpose.

Between some Vader/Kenobi force connections he decides to surrender in front of The Grand Inquisitor to save the people. In the nexts minutes, we see Vader traveling to this place, Kenobi convincing her to stop and join him. She decides to let him go and scape, not before Vader arriving and stopping the scape ship (yes, Leia finished in time and took off the track device from Lola) by the force but everything was a trick. Escape is done and you can feel the pain and how he has been tricked again.

That’s when one of the most bad-ass fights start between Reva and him seeing him barely moving and watching every use of the inquisitors saber and fight styles with the force. As a spontaneous flashback, he stricken back against, leaving her injured and with the comeback of the OG Grand Inquisitor leaving the Third sister with one less shot: finding Luke.

This episode was a good episode in every aspect. Perfect timing and nice flashbacks but I wish we can see more about her background story. The music was the only thing that I want to improve a little bit more but the rest is impecable.

My doubts are in what we are going to see next week, last episode, and how they’re going to give a properly season final. We know: the show wasn’t perfect but in my own opinion, the show is what we wanted. Action, slightly humor, new characters and a fast character development .

This episode is 4.6/5.
