Spoilers for ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’
Well that brings the latest Disney+ Star Wars show to an end and what a ride it was, full of twists and turns, this is our ranking of all 6 ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ episodes:
6 – Part IV
Was there any need for this episode? Unfortunately, this episode falls flat on all levels, the cinematography, the choreography, the directing, the list goes on and on. The over-dramatisation of Leia’s interrogation stands out as one of the most over-the-top sequences in all of Star Wars. The people sitting next to Tala not being able to hear her speaking was a very odd choice of plot development and this episode quickly divided fans’ opinions about the show.
5 – Part I
This episode has stunning visuals, great world-building and truly feels like Star Wars, so how is it so low on this ranking? Simply, it’s quite boring. The 55-minute run time seems a little too long for the amount of storytelling in this episode. Part I makes the inquisitors seem stupid for letting Nari escape and constantly arguing as well as Leia’s chase scene being the most poorly executed action set-piece in all of Star Wars. Overall, it was not the greatest start to the series but it laid the road for the rest of the show.
4 – Part II
The second episode follows Obi-Wan rescuing Leia from a group of bandits. It has some good scenes, most notably when Obi-Wan engages in hand-to-hand fighting in a tight hallway. However, this episode suffers heavily with its dialogue as it makes the inquisitors look like unconvincing antagonists as well as including a very questionable fake-out death for the Grand Inquisitor. However, Kumail Nanjiani’s Haja makes a great addition to the Star Wars universe.
3 – Part III
This episode gets it all right, for the most part, with tense moments, clone wars callbacks and Darth Vader solidifying his place as one of the best villains in cinematic history. Unfortunately, the Vader vs Kenobi rematch falls a bit flat and Vader not walking through or extinguishing the fire remains a massive plot hole as well as Reva managing to beat Leia in getting to the pilot despite the fact that she was further away to begin with. Despite its flaws, this episode will be fondly looked back on by most fans.
2 – Part V
Where do we start? This episode ticks all the boxes, nostalgia, suspense, action, you name it! Darth Vader pulling a ship out of the sky was a great call back to the Force Unleashed video games and seeing Hayden Christensen back as Anakin Skywalker will be a fond memory for most fans. Arguably the highlight of this episode was its REVA-lations. We discovered that Reva was an order 66 survivor and that the only reason she wanted to kill Kenobi was that she blamed him for the downfall of Anakin, and eventually the whole Jedi order which was the only family that she knew. Full of twists and turns, this episode is probably one of the best pieces of media that Disney Star Wars has to offer to date.
1 – Part VI
The rematch of the century indeed! An epic conclusion to ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ was sure to please most fans but it exceeded expectations. Kenobi using the force powerfully, not breaking canon continuity, Reva’s fate left unknown, Kenobi and Vader’s conversation and seeing Liam Neeson as Gui-Gon Jinn again, this episode has it all and fans are hoping for a season 2 to explore more of Obi-Wan’s stories.
